Caloocan bgy placed under total lockdown

THE Caloocan City government has placed an entire barangay under total lockdown after 26 individuals who were among those who attended the wake of a neighbor were found positive for COVID-19.

Mayor Oscar “Oca” Malapitan ordered a total lockdown of Barangay 7 since Saturday until September 11, 2021 while a granular lockdown is being carried out in some areas in Barangay 157, 176 and 177 starting at 12:01 on Monday until September 12 at 11:59 p.m.

The sudden surge of cases of COVID-19 in Barangay 7 was reportedly caused by a seafarer who mingled with his neighbors in a wake and even engaged in a drinking session, not knowing that he was COVID-positive.

The man allegedly underwent mandatory swab testing procedure as a requirement before boarding an international vessel as seaman and while waiting for the result, he attended the wake of his neighbor and engaged in a drinking spree.

The City Health Department initially reported that 26 individuals who were among those who underwent RT-PCR (reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction) test were found positive for COVID-19 while 200 more residents, who were in close contact with persons found positive for the virus, will undergo the same procedure.

On Monday, Mayor Oca said the city government continued to distribute food packs to affected families in Barangay 7 and other areas which were placed under lockdown while misting and disinfection operation was also being conducted.
