2 teens drown in river at Ecija nat’l park
GENERAL TINIO, Nueva Ecija – Two teenagers drowned while swimming with their friends at a river in the Minalungao National Park on Sunday afternoon.
Police identified the two drowning victims as Joshua Mallare, 17, of Bgy. San Pedro, and Romnick Bote, 16, of Bgy. Pulong Matong, this town, both Grade 10 students.
Investigation showed the duo went swimming with three other friends but were carried away by a strong current towards a deep portion of the river.
Police said the duo then went missing, but at about 3:30 p.m., their lifeless bodies were retrieved by the park’s lifeguard at the deep portion of the river.
Authorities are investigating the incident.
