QUEZON City Rep. Alfred Vargas on Sunday lauded the recent picks of President-elect Ferdinand Marcos Jr. for Cabinet appointments, describing the appointees as “forward-looking, pro-active, and competent.”

“The appointments give us confidence that the Filipino people will be in good hands. This is a Cabinet that will help our President-elect fulfill his promises to our countrymen and address whatever challenge may lie ahead,” Vargas said.

“Having known and worked with most of them in Congress and in my advocacies, I know that the incoming Cabinet will be an excellent and credible team composed of men and women who are forward-looking, pro-active, and competent,” he added.

Vargas, chair of the House committee on social services, also expressed confidence that the incoming Marcos administration “will hit the ground running” and resolve many socioeconomic issues posed by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, especially social protection to affected sectors.

Vargas has filed a resolution expressing “trust and confidence” in the Cabinet appointments and urging “stronger unity” between the public and private sectors.

“Despite the challenges ahead, this representation expresses full optimism that the President-elect and his Cabinet will be able to lead and steward the nation towards prosperity and handle the country’s socioeconomic recovery with decisive actions and a clear vision,” the Vargas resolution said.

The resolution noted that the roster of Cabinet appointees “has been lauded by various groups, with top business institutions particularly praising [the President-elect’s] pick for the country’s prospective economic managers.”

“This Representation recognizes that the President-elect, his Cabinet, and his whole Administration will be taking on the critical challenge of steering the country towards full socioeconomic recovery, following the unprecedented damage caused by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic in terms of adverse commercial outcomes and human suffering,” the resolution added.

Vargas backed the call of President-elect Marcos Jr. for unity, describing it as “timely at this historical juncture of our government.”

“This Representation loudly echoes the President-elect’s call to unite—and to unite against the Filipino People’s common adversary: the COVID-19 pandemic and its socioeconomic consequences,” the resolution stated.
