A PUBLIC school teacher and a barangay councilor in Laguna province were arrested by the local police in separate anti-narcotics operations, Laguna Police Provincial Office (LPPO) Director Colonel Randy Glenn G. Silvio announced on Friday.

In a report to Police Regional Office 4-A (PRO 4-A) Director Brig. Gen. Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr., Silvio said the teacher was from an elementary school in Santa Cruz municipality and the barangay councilor was from Lumban.

“We have accounted for two high-value individuals who are using their position in the government to sell illegal drugs. This should serve as a lesson to all in public service that they will find themselves behind bars if they engage in illegal activities,” Silvio said.

The official said that the teacher of Purok 4, Bgy. Tagumpay, Santa Cruz was arrested around 1:45 a.m., November 18 during a buy-bust operation along Marcelo H. del Pilar Street in Bgy. Poblacion 3.

Members of the Santa Cruz Municipal Police Station Drug Enforcement Unit (SDEU) confiscated 16 plastic sachets containing 1.9 grams of shabu valued at P13,000, the marked money, five P100 bills believed to be part of the suspect’s drug proceeds, and a motorcycle during the sting.

On the other hand, the suspect barangay councilor, a resident of Bgy. Maracta in Lumban and his accomplice, a construction worker from the same village, were arrested in an entrapment operation in Rizal St. at 2:20 a.m. Wednesday.

Recovered were seven plastic sachets containing 0.25 grams of shabu, a strip of aluminum foil containing suspected shabu residue, and the buy-bust money.

Charges for sale and possession of prohibited drugs under Republic Act (RA) 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 have been filed against the three suspects before the Laguna Provincial Prosecutor’s Office, said Silvio.
