Student, 19, drowns in Naic river
NAIC, Cavite – A 19-year-old student drowned in a river in Naic town after allegedly reaching the deep portion of the river Monday, April 24.
Local authorities said the victim was a student and resident of Barangay Halang Naic, Cavite.
In a report by P/SSgt. Rodrigo Veloso III of the Naic Police Station, at around 4:30 p.m., the Naic Municipal Police Station received a call about the discovery of the victim’s body on the side of the Katipunan River in Bgy. Palangue Central, Naic.
According to the statements of the victim’s companions, aged 14 and 16, they were frolicking in the river, and the victim suddenly jumped into the deep part of the said river.
Based on the initial investigation, the student was carried away by the strong water current, and his companions tried to rescue him but were unsuccessful.
Police are still investigating the incident.
