FORT MAGSAYSAY, Nueva Ecija — “Isolate yourselves from partisan politics.”

This was the marching order issued by 7th Infantry (Kaugnay) Division commander Maj. Gen. Andrew Costelo to his troops as he ordered their deployment in manning checkpoints starting January 9 until June 8 to assist the police in the implementation of the Commission on Elections’ gun ban to safeguard the conduct of the upcoming May 9 national and local polls.

“I have already ordered our troops not to get involved in partisan politics and to isolate themselves from it,” said Costelo.

The 7th ID chief appealed to the public to abide by the law to avoid getting in trouble and to cooperate with the authorities during checkpoints.

Costelo also said: “Only bonafide police, military, and members of government law enforcement agencies in complete uniform and while on official duty are allowed to carry firearms for the entire duration of the election period.”
