JAEN, Nueva Ecija – A 50-year-old security guard driving a Honda Jazz hatchback was allegedly shot dead by a barangay kagawad, who got back at him after the latter’s son earlier got embroiled in a heated traffic altercation with the victim on Saturday night here.

Police identified the slain victim as Teofilo Gavino, 50, security guard, of Bgy. San Vicente.

The suspect, of Bgy. Imbunia, is reportedly at large.

The shooting occurred in Bgy. Imbunia at 9:30 p.m., shortly after the victim allegedly brought his child to the Nueva Ecija Doctor’s Hospital (NEDH) in Cabanatuan City for dengue treatment.

Investigation showed that the victim was driving a gray Honda Jazz when he had a traffic altercation with the suspect’s son, ending up in a heated verbal exchange between the duo.

After learning about it, the suspect allegedly followed the victim and, without provocation, shot him repeatedly using an unknown type of gun before escaping.

The wounded guard was rushed to the NEDH in Cabanatuan City, where he was pronounced dead on arrival by the attending physician.

Town police head Major Domingo Resma said a manhunt operation has been launched for the suspect.

In a Facebook post, the slain victim’s son, John Christopher Gavino, denounced his father’s killing and demanded that the perpetrators be brought to the bars of justice.

The younger Gavino condemned the suspect’s alleged criminal actions, saying the kagawad was having a drinking spree when he got a phone call from his son, who informed the supposed heated verbal exchange between him and the victim.
