San Juan, Caloocan renew rivalry in vital PCAP battle

SAN Juan Predators and Caloocan Load Manna Knights, the two best teams in the Northern Division, renew their rivalry in the featured encounter in the 2021 PCAP-GM WesleySo Cup chess championships this Saturday.

The Predators, bannered by GM Oliver Barbosa and WIM Jan Jodilyn Fronda, and the Load Manna Knights, led by IM Paulo Bersamina and Arvie Lozano, square off in the second match of another explosive doubleheader in this 24-team tournament sponsored by San Miguel Corporation.

San Juan leads the overall standings with a 25-2 win-loss record and 404 total points.

One of these two losses, however, by San Juan came at the hands of Caloocan, which posted a 12-9 victory last May 26.

Caloocan, on the other hand, is running third overall with 22-5 slate behind only San Juan and Manila Indios Bravos (23-4).

Manila is also hoping to keep its No. 2 position when it takes on Pasig Pirates and Antipolo Cobras.

Southern Division leaders Cordova Dagami Warriors battle Cebu City Machers and Toledo City Trojans, while Camarines Soaring Eagles meet Negros Kingsmen and Mindoro Tamaraws in other featured matches.

Also worth watching are the Iloilo Kisela Knights, who will take on the Zamboanga Sultans and Surigao Fianchetto Checkmates.

PCAP is headed by President- Commissioner Atty. Paul Elauria, Chairman Michael Angelo Chua and Vice Chairman Ariel Potot.

The tournament is sanctioned by the Games and Amusements Board (GAB), led by Chairman Abraham “Baham” Mitra.
