GOVERNMENT agencies and civil society groups will convene next month to develop more effective services for sexually-abused boys to mark the 27th National Awareness Week for the Prevention of Child Sexual Abuse and Exploitation.

The Center for the Prevention and Treatment of Child Sexual Abuse (CPTCSA) Inc. will host a roundtable discussion with government officials and other concerned groups on Feb. 9 at the DSWD Central Office in Quezon City to address the gaps in services for sexually-abused boys.

During the event, the CPTCSA will also present the preliminary findings of its latest study on developing effective services for sexually-abused boys. The report contains a global research review and recommendations based on interviews conducted across the country, which were also presented for peer review.

“The focus on the needs of boys has been a goal of the National Awareness Week of the Prevention of Child Sexual Abuse and Exploitation for the past three years,” the CPTCSA said.

“The study we will present is a continuation of that goal and we will present it during the 2023 National Awareness Week,” it added.

A panel of reactors will comment on the research findings. Members of the audience will also share their insights during the open forum.

The activity was supported by the Council for the Welfare of Children, and the Department of Social Welfare and Development, among other government agencies.

Celebrating the National Awareness Week for the Prevention of Child Sexual Abuse and Exploitation every second week of February was mandated by Presidential Proclamation No. 731 series of 1996.
