FAR EASTERN University yesterday announced through its social media accounts that Olsen Racela is stepping down as the men’s basketball coach.

The Tamaraws placed seventh in the just-concluded Season 85, where they opened at 0-5, the worst start in school history, ending a streak of eight consecutive Final Four appearance.

Taking over from his younger brother Nash, who is now handling Adamson, in 2017, Olsen Racela led FEU to four Final Four berths in five seasons.

“We thank Coach Olsen for guiding our Tamaraws with class and for always instilling the proper values,” said the school in a statement.

After that dismal start, FEU made a run to savage its campaign but it fell short on its Final Four bid, ending the season with a 5-9 record.

“The season of inconsistencies,” said Racela in a late second round post-game interview.

Cholo Añonuevo, Xyrus Torres, Bryan Sajonia, and Ljay Gonzales are among the holdovers for the Tamaraws next season.

FEU last won a championship in 2015, hiking its league-best total to 20.
