AKARI made short work of Capital1, 25-17, 25-14, 25-20, in the Premier Volleyball League All-Filipino Conference yesterday at the Philsports Arena.

The Chargers have a 4-5 record overall, as their semifinals fate is not entirely in their hands.

Akari is trailing joint third placers PetroGazz and Creamline at 6-2. The Angels have the advantage in the first tiebreaker with 19 points, while the Cool Smashers hold 18 points.

With 12 points, Akari still has to play Chery Tiggo, a team also fighting for a Final Four slot on April 20, before wrapping up its preliminaries campaign against already-eliminated Strong Group on April 27.

Creamline actually has a tough two-match stretch in Choco Mucho in a rematch of the previous conference Finals on April 18 and Savi Davison-led PLDT on April 25.

Dindin Santiago-Manabat led the Chargers with 25 points on 20-of-35 attacks, matched Ezra Madrigal’s three blocks and fired a match-best two service aces.

“Ngayon kasi yung game namin, inenjoy ko lang and siyempre, maka-perform kami, mailabas namin kung ano talaga yung team Akari,” said Santiago-Manabat after the victory.

“So every training, every game, ang kailangan lang talaga namin is i-enjoy and ipanalo yung mga bawat games namin,” she added.

Grethcel Soltones chipped in nine points, collected 14 digs and five receptions for Akari.

“Again, credit naman talaga sa mga bata kasi medyo yung nagkaroon ng outcome naman yung pinaghirapan namin na training,” said Chargers head coach Raffy Mosuela.

“Actually, medyo from the start, ang focus namin is going to Chery Tiggo dahil yun yung medyo mabigat na kalaban namin. Yung sa Capital1 naman is, nagkaroon din naman kami ng gameplan kaya ayun, nanalo naman,” he added.

Jorelle Singh hammered 10 kills for the Solar Spikers, who fell to 1-8.
