CRISS Cross dropped a set for the first time this season but was able to stretc its unbeaten run to four matches by tripping Iloilo’s D’Navigators, 25-20, 20-25, 32-30, 25-14 in the Spikers’ Turf Open Conference at the Paco Arena late Wednesday night.

The King Crunchers lost in the second set but were able to regroup behind Jude Garcia and Pemie Bagalay in the next two to gain a share of the lead.

Raising its record to 4-0, Criss Cross joined Cignal on top of the standings.

Despite coming off a long layoff, Garcia managed to deliver a stellar performance for the King Crunchers, scoring 19 points, including two blocks. More importantly, the former beach volleyball standout proved clutch in the swing set to power Criss Cross to the victory.

“Sobrang saya kasi after ng break nung Holy Week, andun pa rin yung composure namin sa game,” said Garcia.

The win set the stage for what looms to be an epic encounter between the league’s only unbeaten teams, and preseason favorites, on Sunday at the Philsports Arena.

Bagalay, who entered as a third and fourth set starter for the King Crunchers, responded with 11 kills and 11 receptions, while Kim Malabunga also tallied 11 points, including four blocks.

Meanwhile, the D’Navigators dropped to 4-1 to level with PGJC-Navy.

Francis Saura scored 18 points, including two blocks and added six digs, Edward Campo chipped in 12 points, while Toto De Pedro also logged 12 points and 12 receptions for D’Navigators. Jayvee Sumagaysay had 11 points.
