PHILIPPINE National Police Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (PNP-CIDG) director, Brigadier General Romeo M. Caramat Jr. on Sunday announced the arrest of two rape and murder suspects in the country following separate manhunt operations conducted by his men.

The official said one of the suspects identified as Ronnilieto Velez Jr. alias ‘Bigboy,’ a 22-year-old resident of Sitio Lumang Ilong in San Juan, Taytay was arrested on the strength of a warrant for violation nof Republic Act 8353 or the Anti-Rape Law of 1997 issued by Judge Ma. Consejo Ignalaga of the Antipolo City Regional Trial Court Branch 100 on July 29 last year.

No bail was recommended for the temporary liberty of the accused who was described as the 8th most wanted person in Rizal until he was tracked down by members of the CIDG Women and Children Concern Unit in his alleged hiding place in Sitio Mayagay, Sampaloc, Tanay last Thursday.

The 2nd suspect identified as Elbeb Abriol, a 51-year-old resident of Sitio Sto. Niño in Indahag, Cagayan de Oro City was arrested in connection with the killing of a lawyer in Malaybalay City in Bukidnon 15 years ago, Brig. Gen. Caramat said.

He added that members of the CIDG Cagayan de Oro City Field Unit, with the assistance of local police, arrested the suspect last Thursday on the basis of a non-bailable warrant of arrest for murder issued by Judge Pelacio Estopia of the Malaybalay City RTC Branch 8.

The suspect was described as a member of the ‘Talisik Crime Group’ engaged in gunrunning, gun-for-hire, car theft and other criminal activities in different towns and municipalities in Bukidnon.

The arrest of the two came in the wake of the intensified implementation of the PNP-CIDG’s Oplan: Pagtugis and Oplan: Salikop aimed at accounting for most wanted criminals nationwide as ordered by PNP chief, General Rodolfo S. Azurin Jr.

“We ensure that justice will be served to the victims and their families as we won’t stop in tracking all suspects down so that they can be brought to court and held accountable for their crimes,” said Brig. Gen. Caramat.
