PHILIPPINE National Police (PNP) chief General Rommel Francisco D. Marbil has emphasized the need for all his officers and men to ‘lead by example.’

“Ang gusto ng ating Pangulo ligtas na Pilipinas kaya dapat maramdaman ng mga tao ang mga pulis, ano ba sila? Nasaan ba sila?” the 30th PNP chief asked.

The top cop said that he wants the public to feel the presence of uniformed and plainclothes officers in the streets guarding them as they leave their homes, work and school.

The PNP chief said he doesn’t want to see unmanned police patrol vehicles just parked in their designated assignments in public places, most importantly in areas of major convergence.

Marbil ordered his officials to ensure effective supervision of their respective commanders on the ground since leadership by good example discourages even the lowest ranking policemen to commit wrongdoings or be involved in illegal activities.

By practicing good leadership by example, the PNP chief said all of their subordinates would be forced to do good knowing their officials won’t tolerate bad traits and illegal activities.

Before, there were times public transactions in Camp Crame every Monday have been greatly delayed by flag-raising rites attended to by very long public speeches by officials and guests. Marbil wants a stop to this practice.

Last Friday, Camp Crame held its first flag-lowering rites under Gen. Marbil without the traditional parade of troops.

The PNP chief said he will also be seeing to it that their Monday flag-raising rites will not last for an hour as they will be scrapping ceremonies and long speeches.

The new top cop said he will not be ‘re-inventing the wheel’ but will see to it that the good programs of his predecessor, now retired Gen. Benjamin C. Acorda Jr., will be further improved.

The new PNP chief has emphasized that ‘leadership by example’ is not a complicated concept as he has been practicing it since he was young.
