PCG member nabbed for extortion in Zambo

A MEMBER of the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) accused of extorting money from PCG applicants was arrested in an entrapment operation in Zamboanga City last Monday, Police Regional Office 9 (PRO9) director, Brigadier General Ronaldo Genaro E. Ylagan announced yesterday.

Seaman Aldasher Anni, a 25-year old member of the Isabela City Coast Guard Station in Basilan was arrested during the sting inside Krishatel Leisure Inn located along Veterans Avenue Extension past 4:30 p.m. of September 27, the official said.

Ylagan added the entrapment operation was conducted amid information that the accused was demanding P85,000 from local PCG applicant in exchange for their immediate enlistment in the agency.

Recovered from the suspect were the boodle money topped by two marked P1,000 bills. He was immediately taken to the Zamboanga City Police Office for documentation and filing of criminal charges following his arrest, said the Western Mindanao police official.

Members of the Zamboanga City Police Office’s Criminal Investigation Unit and Criminal Investigation Division and the Regional Intelligence Unit 9 conducted the operation with the assistance from the PCG 9 and the local Criminal Investigation and Detection Group and Highway Patrol Group.

The accused will also be facing administrative charges for grave misconduct, an offense which would merit his dismissal from the PCG once proven guilty.
