DON’T look now, but even members of the House of Representatives want all those behind the murder of hard-hitting broadcaster Percy Mabasa to be brought to justice at all costs.
In fact, House Speaker Martin G. Romualdez, a cousin of President Marcos, said his colleagues view with concern the killing of the journalist, more popularly known as “Percy Lapid.”
A P5-million reward awaits anybody who can provide information that will lead to the arrest of the perpetrators and masterminds of the dastardly act, said Speaker Romualdez.
The House leader from Leyte said the bounty will come from the personal contributions of congressmen, who were appalled by the murder of Percy Lapid last October 3.
Records show that the highly-popular print and broadcast journalist was gunned down by two still unidentified suspects at the gate of a subdivision in Las Pinas City.
In a statement Sunday night, Speaker Romualdez said that violence has no place in a civilized society, like the Philippines.
According to Speaker Romualdez, the role of journalists, who are just practicing their profession, is very critical in ensuring transparency in the government service.
Himself a leading advocate of press freedom in the Philippines, the articulate Speaker Romualdez announced the bounty in a press statement Sunday night.
We commend concerned government authorities, particularly our law enforcers, for employing all means to identify and arrest all those behind the killing of Lapid.
We are all for this.
