THE Office of the Vice President will soon deploy the Kalusugan Food Trucks to address malnutrition among underprivileged schoolchildren.

Norman Baloro, Local Affairs and Special Programs Division Chief, said the new initiative will help address the nutritional challenges of children in communities.

โ€œThe OVP Kalusugan Food Truck is a program that seeks to help children suffering from malnutrition, hunger, and poor development,โ€ Baloro said.

He added the program will be implemented in collaboration with the Department of Education and the Department of Health through the National Nutrition Council.

The food trucks will be deployed in identified schools and institutions, and will be following a 120-day feeding program menu.

Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao will each have one food truck to deliver services to schools with malnutrition and hunger problems among children.

โ€œWe target nine schools in a year (three schools each in Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao), considering that 120 days is prescribed by National Nutrition Council,โ€ Baloro said.

The food trucks will also be used as augmentation resource serving food for the victims of calamities.

โ€œOur food trucks will also serve as mobile kitchen during calamities as part of our disaster operations,โ€ Baloro said.

The three trucks, Baloro said, were lent to the OVP under a usufruct agreement until 2028.
