SILANG, Cavite – After extorting a Land Transportation Office (LTO) employee of Quezon City, a Nigerian national and his two Filipina accomplices were arrested while collecting the money at a remittance center in an entrapment operation conducted by the police in Barangay Ipil Silang Cavite.

The victim who personally went to the Quezon City District Anti-Cybercrime Team (QCDACT) to ask for help was a 62-year-old employee of the LTO Quezon City, a resident of the LTO (Personnel Quarters) Central Office.

In his statement to the police, it is said that on August 30, 2022, he received a friend request on his Facebook account named “Brian Lyndsey” who is said to be a US military personnel. Since then, they have been friends, and this September, he told him that it would send a package with $387,000 that the victim was happy with.

On September 5, at around 7:00 a.m., the victim received a phone and introduced herself as a representative of the Bureau of Customs (BOC), and the victim was informed that a package had arrived and he was required to pay P5,000 for the alleged “baggage clearance.”

The victim immediately gave in, but a few days later, he received an email from BNL Cargo Company and was told that the package was held by the Customs police and required to pay P7,000 for the release and another P10,000 for the security package.

The victim provided the payment, but on September 21, the victim received a call from the bogus BOC representative and said that the delivery vehicle cargo could not handle the said luggage and had to pay an additional P7,000.

After that, on October 9, the victim received an email from the same cargo company demanding an amount of P10,000 for the delivery and, in the email dated October 10, an additional P7,000.

The cargo company emailed again on Oct. 29 and demanded P5,000 for the alleged last payment on the delivery package. This is where the victim got nervous and felt that the events were said to be a “scam.”

The victim decided to go to the QCDACT, where an entrapment operation was formed.

The authorities conducted the entrapment operation in a remittance center in Barangay Ipil, Silang, in Cavite, where the money sent by the victim is scheduled to be collected.

Police operatives nabbed the three suspects while claiming the money and preparing multiple charges to be filed against them.
