THE National Basketball League (NBL)-Philippines hopes to discover more young and talented players from the countryside during its series of inter-cities basketball championships.

The tournament will begin at the Sta.Rosa Multi-Purpose Stadium in Sta. Rosa, Laguna on Aug. 6, according to NBL Organizing Committee Chairman Leonardo “Ding” Andres.

“The NBL Inter-City Championship which kicks off in Sta.Rosa, Laguna is only the beginning. Madami pa itong kasunod,” said Andres during the 31st “Sports On Air” program via Zoom last Thursday.

Andres said the tournament is sanctioned by the Basketball Association of the Philippines (BAP) as part of its 86th year anniversary.

The long-time basketball official said the NBL Inter-City Championship will also be held in the Southeastern/Bicol Region through BAP Director Alex Monsalve and Northern Region/La Union through Commissioner Armando “Boy” Valencia and former PBA player Jun Marzan.

“Our BAP-NBL officials are now coordinating with several LGUs and community-based clubs for our coming tournaments. Sa Sta.Rosa, madami pa nga sana ang gustong humabol na teams para makasali, but we have decided to limit the entries,” added Andres during the weekly online sports program.

On Aug. 6, the NBL Inter-City Basketball Championship will open in Sta. Rosa City with no less than Mayor Arlene Arcillas, Vice Mayor Arnold Arcillas and Federation of School Sports Association of the Philippines (FESSAP) Membership Committee head Dr. Robert Calo as special guests.

The participating teams and their coaches are Sta.Rosa City (Jay-R Dichoso); Biñan City (Almer Almazora); San Pedro City-Leads Agri (Dharies Creencia); San Pedro City-AMB (Aaron Mendoza); Cabuyao City Tigers (Carlo Fenequito); Calamba City (Francis Natividad); Paete – PG Flex Maruyama (Johny Tam); and Sto.
