Speaker Romualdez pinaiimbestigahan mataas na presyo ng bilihin kahit mababa ang farmgate price

SA pagbubukas ng sesyon ay pangungunahan ni Speaker Ferdinand Martin G. Romualdez ang pagsasagawa ng imbestigasyon kaugnay ng mataas na presyo ng bilihin sa kabila ng pagiging mababa ng farmgate price.

Ito ang sinabi ni Speaker Romualdez matapos ang pakikipagpulong nito at ni Deputy Majority Leader Erwin Tulfo sa mga kinatawan ng producer, retailer at grocery stores noong Martes kaugnay ng mataas na presyo ng bilihin.

“I would ask Chairman Mark Enverga of the Committee on Agriculture to immediately start the ball rolling for an investigation into the disconnect between farmgate and retail prices of basic goods,” ani Speaker Romualdez, lider ng Kamara de Representantes na mayroong mahigit 300 miyembro.

“The discrepancy between farmgate and retail prices of basic goods is alarming and warrants immediate attention. We cannot ignore the plight of our farmers who are struggling to make ends meet, nor can we turn a blind eye to the burden placed on consumers,” dagdag pa nito.

Sa pagpupulong, sinabi ni Jayson Cainglet ng Samahang Industriya ng Agrikultura (SINAG) na ang farmgate price ng bigas, manok, baboy at maging sibuyas ay hindi gumalaw sa nakalipas na tatlong buwan kaya wala dapat naging malaking pagtaas sa presyo.

Nangako si Speaker Romualdez na gagamitin ng Kamara ang oversight function nito upang masilip ang isyu at makagawa ng batas kung kinakailangan para mas maprotektahan ang mga mamimili laban sa mga mapagsamantala.

“It is imperative that we conduct a comprehensive review of our laws to ensure that they effectively safeguard the interests of our farmers and consumers. We must take proactive measures to prevent profiteering and promote a fair and transparent trading environment,” saad pa ni Speaker Romualdez.

Nanawagan ang lider ng Kamara sa mga stakeholder na makilahok sa mga diskusyon upang makagawa ng angkop na polisiya at mapababa ang presyo ng mga bilihin.

“At the end of the day, we want to make sure that all the stakeholders in whatever industry or sectors are viable, if they are in the business side of it, so that it becomes sustainable so that we can continue delivering basic goods and services to the consumers at sustainable, affordable prices,” paliwanag ni Speaker Romualdez.

Samantala, tiniyak ni Speaker Romualdez na suportado ng Kamara ang mga hakbang upang maprotektahan ang mga bulnerableng sektor ng lipunan sa mataas na presyo ng bilihin.

“We would have to work toward widening the scope of these interventions while we are simultaneously working on the long-term solution or target of rice self-sufficiency, and efficiencies are generated, and less dependence on expensive, imported rice,” sabi pa ni Speaker Romualdez.

Tinukoy ni Speaker Romualdez ang mga programa gaya ng Cash Assistance and Rice Distribution (CARD) Program — isang joint initiative ng Kamara at Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) para mabigyan ng bigas at perang pambili ng pagkain ang mga mahihirap na pamilya.

Binanggit din ni Speaker Romualdez ang Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation (AICS) Program ng DSWD na nagbibigay ng medical, burial, transportation, education, food o financial assistance upang maibsan ang krisis na nararanasan ng isang pamilya; gayundin ang Ayuda para sa Kapos ang Kita Program (AKAP) para matulungan ang mga “near poor” na bahagi ng lipunan at maiwasan na sila ay bumalik sa ibaba ng poverty line.
