HEEDING the call of Transportation Secretary Jaime J. Bautista on safety as one of the cornerstones for public land transportation service, the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) through its Chairperson Atty. Cheloy Velicaria-Garafil, MNSA reiterated the duty and responsibility of all grantees/operators of Certificate of Public Convenience (CPC) to employ all means necessary to ensure safety in its daily operations for the benefit of the riding public.

The untoward incident which happened on July 5, 2022 in Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental involving a Public Utility Bus (PUB) owned by Vallacar Transit Inc. and which resulted in physical injuries to several passengers is something that should not be simply ignored or condoned, according to LTFRB.

The LTFRB has issued a show cause order against the respondent bus company on why its CPC should not be cancelled or suspended in view of the said incident. The LTFRB shall hear the case en banc on July 2022 19, at 9 a.m.

Garafil further emphasized that, “the operation of public transportation is imbued with public interest and is a mere privilege bestowed by the government to the grantees. Operators are to provide the highest form of safety and convenience to the passengers. Road safety should at all times be observed.”
