Loyzaga: Important thing is to find where MT Princess Empress sunk

ORIENTAL Mindoro — Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Secretary Ma. Antonia Yulo-Loyzaga visited the incident Command Post in Barangay Estrella, Naujan on March 3 and checked on the oil spill incident caused by the sinking of the MT Princess Empress oil tanker in the municipal waters of the town of Naujan recently.

“We are here now to see how we can help in relation to the incident. Right now the important thing is to find where the vessel actually sunk to see where it (oil spill) could spread and affect the marine habitat and livelihood of the fishermen in Oriental Mindoro,” she added.

Loyzaga added that the National Mapping and Resource Information Authority (NAMRIA) will deploy a vessel capable of locating the sunken oil tanker.

Meanwhile, Provincial Administrator MD Hubbert Christopher A. Dolor, representative of Governor Humerlito “Bonz” A. Dolor, requested Loyzaga through the DENR office to order various national agencies to assist the province in helping prevent the oil spill affect the coastal areas of Oriental Mindoro.

Dolor also announced the plan to declare a State of Calamity Oriental Mindoro.
