AS the barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections draw near, Local Government Secretary Benjamin “Benhur” Abalos Jr. urged local chief executives (LCEs) to assist the Commission on Elections (Comelec) in tearing down of unlawful election propaganda materials.

Election period will run from August 28 until November 29 while the election day is scheduled on October 30.

The Comelec has set the campaign period from October 19 to 28.

According to Abalos, the DILG and LGUs are among the government agencies deputized by the poll body in keeping all areas from paraphernalia that violate election laws.

In Memorandum Circular 2023-105, the DILG chief also enjoined LGUs to provide the COMELEC with the necessary equipment for the removal of unlawful election materials and the likes and designate personnel to assist the election body team.

Section 240 of Resolution 10924 states that it is unlawful to print, publish, post, and distribute any form of campaign materials that do not bear the name of the payor or candidate who will benefit from the election propaganda printed or aired.

Posting, displaying or exhibiting any election material outside of authorized common poster areas in public places, or in private properties without the consent of the owner thereof is likewise prohibited.
