Lack of jobs

LACK of jobs is one of the most important problems the nation and the Filipino people face as the government tries to address the catastrophic effects of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic.

Many people are increasingly worried about their future and like most people across the country, believe the jobless and the underemployed will play a crucial role in the outcome of the forthcoming polls.

Without doubt, the close to 65 million registered voters, particularly the jobless, will be attracted by a candidate’s program of action designed to meet the employment needs of the burgeoning population.

“Siyempre, ang gusto ng mga kababayan natin ay yong mga kandidato na may malasakit sa kapakanan ng mga manggagawa,” according to a displaced worker from the oil-rich Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

What the country needs right now, he said, are highly-dedicated government officials who are out to help the beleaguered workers, local and overseas, at this time of economic hardship.

This early, many electors remain undecided on who to send to Malacanang and Congress – the Senate and the House of Representatives – on May 9, 2022.

In the view of political observers, the various labor groups are significant in the forthcoming election, when the nation’s voters go to the polls to elect a new set of national and local government officials.

Aware of the big number of members of the so-called working class, candidates will have to present themselves as pro-workers if they want to win in next year’s political exercise.

Majority of our countrymen still live below the poverty line. Of course, many of them are workers, who cannot send their children to college because of grinding poverty.

In our view, workers want more pro-labor men and women in the government service.
