JRU rules NCAA 3×3 tilt

JOSE Rizal University rallied past San Sebastian, 21-20, in the thrilling Final to capture the men’s championship in the NCAA 3×3 tournament at the JRU Gym yesterday.

The Stags were ahead, 20-17, when Joshua Guiab’s reverse lay-up sparked the Bombers’ 4-0 finishing run.

Vince Sarmiento then went 1-of-2 from the foul line in the final 20 seconds to seal JRU’s triumph.

Jonathan Medina, who nailed two free throws to give the Bombers a 17-15 advantage prior to the Stags’ 5-0 run, was named the season MVP.

University of Perpetual Help System Dalta annexed the juniors title at the expense of La Salle Green Hills, 16-9.

Tournament MVP Icee Callangan put the game to bed with a two-pointer to give the Junior Altas a 15-9 advantage with a minute remaining.

In the men’s semifinals, JRU downed San Beda, 21-12, while San Sebastian nipped Benilde, 20-19.

Benilde secured third place following a 19-13 conquest of San Beda.

LSGH outlasted JRU, 21-18, to forge a juniors Final duel with Perpetual, a 21-19 winner over San Beda.

San Beda secured a podium finish after beating JRU, 20-17.
