Jail guard, prisoner killed in gun scuffle
STA. Cruz, Laguna–A prison guard and a prisoner in Laguna were killed during a gun scuffle Wednesday in Pagsanjan.
Laguna OIC Provincial Director PCol. Harold Depositar identified the prison guard as Jonathan Sombilla Buenviaje, 50, of Bgy. Maulawin, Pagsanjan,Laguna.
P/Col. Depositar said the suspect who was also shot and killed during the scuffle was Romnick Balbaran Estradilla, 32.
Estradilla is in jail for frustrated murder, according to the police.
The incident happened when the suspect approached the victim while the latter was rendering his duty as jail guard at Dorm number 1 around 9 a.m.
When the suspect was very near the guard, forcibly took the issued firearm from him and shot him several times, thus prompting the other jail guard to retaliate, wounding the suspect.
Unfortunately, both men died later at the Laguna Provincial Hospital.
