PHILIPPINE National Police’s (PNP) Integrity Monitoring and Enforcement Group (IMEG) Director Brigadier General Warren F. de Leon on Friday announced the arrest of a 42-year-old police “impostor” for robbery-extortion in Talisay, Batangas.

In a report to PNP Chief Gen. Rodolfo S. Azurin Jr., the official said that the suspect – a former overseas Filipino worker (OFW) residing at Barangay Sta. Maria, Talisay municipality, was found to be identifying himself as one “Corporal Edison” to extort money from his targets.

Around 5:40 p.m. Monday, the suspect was arrested by IMEG 4-A operatives with the help of officers from the Talisay Municipal Police Station (MPS) during an entrapment operation inside the Alfamart store in Bgy. Banga.

De Leon said that the sting was conducted following a complaint from a resident of Poblacion 1 in Talisay.

The victim said that the suspect approached him, introduced himself as “Corporal Edison,” and demanded “protection money” for several gambling tables put up in their house where the wake of his cousin is being held.

De Leon said that his men went to the site after receiving the complaint and, in coordination with the Talisay Police, launched the sting after the victim told them that he had been instructed by the suspect to deliver him the money he was demanding.

The suspect was arrested after he accepted the marked money from the complainant.

He was immediately informed of the cause of his arrest and his constitutional rights before being taken to the Talisay Police headquarters for booking and filing criminal charges.
