ON the eve of the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections, House Deputy Minority Leader Bernadette Herrera on Sunday urged Filipinos to vote for barangay officials recognized for their exceptional performance and unwavering dedication to improving their communities.

She issued this rallying call while underscoring the critical role that barangay officials play in the lives of Filipinos.

“Barangay officials are the frontliners of public service. They are the ones who directly address the needs of our communities. Therefore, it is imperative that we choose leaders who are not just talkers but true performers and doers,” she pointed out.

The lady lawmaker’s appeal for a higher standard in barangay polls stemmed from her conviction that electing officials with a proven history of concrete accomplishments can bring about genuine change in the lives of citizens.

“We need leaders who have a vision and the capability to turn that vision into reality. This is the time for us to break away from traditional politics and prioritize competence and dedication,” she stressed.

Herrera also encouraged voters to scrutinize the qualifications and past achievements of the candidates.

“Don’t be swayed by empty promises and grand speeches. Look at what these candidates have done for their communities in the past,” according to her.

She added: “Have they initiated projects that have improved the quality of life for their constituents? Have they shown a commitment to public service? These are the questions we must ask.”

The lawmaker said empowering barangay officials with vision and a proven track record can lead to a more responsive and effective local governance.

“Let’s choose barangay officials who are not afraid to roll up their sleeves and work for the betterment of our communities. Together, we can build a stronger and more prosperous nation,” she concluded.
