GABRIELA Party-list backed the disbarment of Atty. Larry Gadon for badmouthing and sexist verbal attacks against a female journalist.

Gabriela expressed full support to the call of Foreign Correspondents Association of the Philippines (FOCAP) to the Supreme Court and Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP) to sanction Gadon over the “atrocious, beastly behavior.”

“We support calls for the disbarment of Atty. Gadon, as we should no longer tolerate such barbaric behavior which tarnishes the legal profession,” the party-list said.

Gadon posted in his social media page a short video badmouthing Raisa Robles, a Manila correspondent for the South China Morning Post.

For the Gabriela Party-list, Gadon’s speech was loaded with profanities and misogynistic remarks.

“ To consider this as protected speech is to condone the impunity by which the Duterte regime has publicly looked down and insulted Filipino women,” Gabriela said.

“Such highly offensive public remarks constitute gender-based online sexual harassment, which is penalized under the Safe Spaces Act, and point to a clear violation of his oath to the Code of Professional Responsibility (CPR),” the group added.
