HERE’S good news to all professional boxers, mixed martial arts practitioners and muaythai fighters.

The Games and Amusements Board (GAB), headed by Chairman Abraham “Baham” Mitra, announced the renewal of the memorandum of agreement between GAB and the Department of Health concerning the free medical and neurological services.

Mitra personally announced the renewal of the MOA that will benefit more than 1,500 GAB-licensed professional boxers, MMA and muaythai fighters.

“This is really good news to all our pro boxers, MMA and muaythai athletes,” said Mitra in a message to People’s Tonight yesterday.

Mitra also shared the good news about the inclusion of free hematoma screening tests for all professional combat sports athletes.

“Commissioner Trinidad, Commissioner Masanguid, and I are very happy to announce that GAB is now ready to provide free hematoma screening tests for our professional athletes,” said Mitra.

Mitra also said GAB procured hematoma screening units to ensure the health and safety of professional boxers, MMA, and muay Thai fighters
Mitra and Dr. Radentor Viernes, GAB Medical Section Chief, led the turn-over ceremony held at the GAB main office in Makati yesterday.

The GAB-DOH partnership that provides free medical and neurological services to all licensed professional athletes started shortly after President Duterte appointed Mitra as head of the government body supervising professional sports.

“Ang GAB ay nagpapasalamat po sa DOH, mula kay dating DOH Secretary Paulyn Rosell-Ubial hanggang sa kasalukuyang liderato ni Sec. Francisco Duque, dahil hindi nila pinababayaan ang GAB kasama na ang ating mga professional athletes lalo ngayong pandemya,”added Mitra.
