SAN JOSE CITY – A former Milisyang Bayan (MB) member of the New People’s Army (NPA) voluntarily surrendered to police authorities at the 2nd Provincial Mobile Force Company (PMFC) here on Friday.

2nd PFMC head Lt. Col. Ranny G. Casilla identified the former MB member as alias “Ka Awang”, a local government unit (LGU) employee who previously operated under the NPA’s Josefino Corpuz command from 2004-2005.

During his surrender, Ka Awang turned over his cal. 357 revolver with three bullets and a hand grenade.

Acting Provincial Police Chief Col. Jess B. Mendez said Ka Awang’s surrender, facilitated by Casilla’s unit, was a clear manifestation that the NEPPO’s ongoing campaign against local terrorism has been a “success”.

Mendez said the operation was in line with the “Oplan Balik-Loob” program of the government and through the effort of the said unit to support the Nueva Ecija Provincial Task Force-ELCAC in the campaign against insurgency.

“We are surely and continuously winning the battle against local terrorism as we are now almost at the end,” said Mendez, noting that the operation was in line with the directives of Police Regional Office 3 (PRO 3) Director Brig. Gen. Matthew P. Baccay to intensify the implementation of EO 70 in the region.
