THE Department of Justice (DOJ) has ordered the Bureau of Immigration (BI) to update its “watchlist” to ensure that foreign fugitive a cannot enter the country.

Filipinos, notably immigration authorities, know full well that the presence of “foreign fugitives” in the Philippines poses a threat to our national security.

Justice Secretary Jesus C. Remulla’s “timely order” is ample proof that the government is determined to rid this impoverished nation of foreign criminals.

If not, more foreigners wanted in their countries may be tempted to sneak into the country.

Remulla’s order also reminds us Filipinos. including the ordinary citizens, that there’s a need to support efforts to ensure the safety of the people.

Without doubt, the general public plays a pivotal role in locating and arresting wanted foreign criminals still hiding in the Philippines.

The updating of the so-called “BI watchlist” will be done in close coordination with partner international law enforcement agencies.

And Remulla said that the government has the will and the capacity to catch these fugitives, adding “you cannot get away with our laws.”

As well-meaning people, we should not allow these criminals, notably those involved in human trafficking, to victimize our citizens.

Let’s then hasten the updating of the immigration “watchlist.”
