Ex-PIO nabbed for cyber libel
A FORMER San Pedro City Hall public information officer was arrested after being charged for violation of R.A 10175 or the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012 Saturday at his residence in Brgy. Halang, Binan City.
George Tayag, 65,of Block 3, Lot 9, Juana 3C Subdivision, San Francisco, Brgy. Halang was nabbed by Binan Police operatives after a Warrant of Arrest was issued against him by Judge Anthony Fama of Regional Trial Court Branch 277 in Mandaluyong City in April 7, 2022.
Malacanang’s Acting Cabinet Secretary Atty. Melvin Matibag filed the complaint against Tayag.
Tayag was charged with 12 counts of Cyber Libel in relation to his numerous libelous posts and attacks against former Laguna Provincial Board member Ann Matibag and her husband Cabsec lawyer Melvin Matibag on his Facebook Account with his name, George Tayag.
Tayag reportedly began attacking the Matibags personally after Ann Matibag filed her Certificate of Candidacy in October 2021 as a winning contender for the congressional seat in the new lone district of San Pedro City.
As of press time, Tayag is still detained at the Binan City Police Detention Center and was ordered to pay P12,000 bail bond for each count for his temporary liberty.
