CAMP GENERAL ALEJO S SANTOS, City of Malolos – A former member of the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People’s Army (CPP-NPA) on Thursday voluntarily surrendered to Bulacan PNP (Philippine National Police) in Doña Remedios Trinidad (DRT), Bulacan.

Bulacan Police Director Col. Relly Arnedo identified the rebel returnee as alias “Ka Armand/Ka Amang”, a farmer and former member of Bagong Hukbong Bayan or New People’s Army (NPA), whose main task in the group was to provide information on the movement of the government troops (Pasabilis), gather food resources for the group, to plan and assists the CTGs (communist terrorist groups) to cross mountain paths (from Kalawakan DRT to Ilog Papaya in Nueva Ecija) to avoid detection.

Cpt. Eugenio de Ramos, of ACOP DRT, said elements of DRT police facilitated the surrender of “Ka Amang” to the government.

Ka Amang said he was approached by a certain “Ka Jerry” under the command of “Joselito Cardines” of the newly formed platoon Team Sierra Madre with more or less 40 CTGs armed with long firearms.

Ka Jerry advised the surrenderee to procure two sacks of rice for the CTGs journey from DRT to Montalban, Rizal, which prompted him to seek help from community leaders.

Ka Amang also revealed that he was able to get information on the identity of Army personnel, troop movement, and the creation of detachment in the area, wherein he informs the CTGs to avoid encounters with the government troops who are conducting combat patrols.

The former rebel member is now under the custody of DRT MPS (Municipal Police Station) for documentation and debriefing.

Arnedo said the Bulacan police vowed to intensify their campaign against insurgency and terrorism in the province.
