Ex-Marine shoots elder sister dead

AN allegedly drunk retired Philippine Marine soldier shot to death his elder sister during a heated altercation Sunday in San Jose City, Nueva Ecija.

City police head Lt. Col. Criselda Y. De Guzman identified the suspect who was subsequently arrested as Eusebio Tugas Jr., 60, and his slain sister as Laureda Bermoza, 69, married, jobless, both of Sitio Cumabol, Bgy. Caanawan, this city.

Investigation showed that prior to the shooting, the supposedly drunk suspect had a verbal dispute with the victim in front of the Veronica Maalindog Sari-sari Store in said barangay at 5 p.m.

However, the suspect went home to take his cal. 45 pistol, returned to the store and allegedly shot his sister repeatedly.

De Guzman said the victim was declared dead on arrival at the San Jose City General Hospital while the suspect fled on foot.

Probers recovered six spent shells for a cal. 45 pistol at the crime scene.

A hot pursuit operation led to the arrest of the suspect in Purok Bantug, Bgy. San Andres, Science City of Muñoz, said De Guzman.

Meanwhile, De Guzman said a wanted rape suspect identified as Jomar Miniano, 27, single, of Mata Street, Bgy. Poblacion North, Lupao, Nueva Ecija, was arrested at his hideout in Bgy. Rafael Rueda Sr. at 10:45 a.m. Saturday.

Police served against Miniani an arrest warrant for rape with no bail recommended issued by Regional Trial Court Judge Leo Cecilio D. Bautista, of the San Jose City RTC Branch 38.
