Enough local jobs

IN two weeks time, President Ferdinand “Bongbong” R. Marcos Jr. completes the first five months of his six-year administration, with many of his visions taking shape.

One of President Marcos’ top priorities is the creation of more quality local jobs, along with achieving food security as well as lasting peace and order throughout the country.

“My dream is that Filipinos no longer need to leave to work abroad because they cannot find jobs in the Philippines,” he said in a speech in Cambodia last Sunday.

Addressing members of the Filipino community in Phnom Penh, President Marcos said his government is committed to provide enough local jobs for the burgeoning population.

“Ang ating pangarap ay hindi na kailangang umalis ang Pilipino dahil hindi makahanap ng trabaho sa Pilipinas. Kung may aalis man, hindi ito sapilitan,” the President said.

The Chief Executive met with members of the Filipino community at the end of his visit in Cambodia, where he attended the 40th and 41st ASEAN Summits and Related Simmits.

With low pay of workers in this poverty-stricken Southeast Asian nation of more than 110 million people, many Filipinos, including professionals, prefer to work in foreign lands.

But due to the presence of sweet-talking illegal recruiters and abusive foreign employers, many overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) return home “battered and penniless.”

We, thus, share the view of the namesake and only son of the late President Ferdinand E. Marcos that it’s certainly high time to prioritize the creation of more local jobs

Kagaya nga ng sinabi ni Pangulong Bpngbong Marcos sa harap ng mga OFW sa Cambodia, kung may aalis mang kababayan natin ay “hindi ito sapilitan.”
