BANKING on his 38-year experience in the uniformed service, former Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Gen. Guillermo Eleazar vowed to focus on making new laws that will protect the country from different kinds of internal and external threats should he win in the Senate.

Eleazar vowed to focus on peace and order as he emphasized that it is the foundation of the country’s economic development.

“Sa aking 38 na taong serbisyo publiko bilang isang sundalo at isang pulis, nakita natin ang mga kakulangan upang mapalakas ang ating peace and order para sa kapakinabangan ng sambayanang Pilipino,” said Eleazar.

“Ito ang tututukan natin dahil ako ay naniniwala na ang security, ang peace and order and pundasyon ng kaunlaran ng ating bayan,” he added.

Eleazar – a native of Tagkawayan, Quezon, and the lone senatorial aspirant from Calabarzon – said he saw the deep connection of the different crimes to the social problems in the communities in the past four decades of his service as a police officer.

Introduced as a “SIGA ng Bayan”, a coined term of Filipino values “Sipag” (hard work) and “Galing” (excellence), Eleazar was known as a strict disciplinarian when he was still in the PNP.

He castigated policemen who were involved in illicit acts because for him, a small problem should immediately be fixed for it not to evolve into a bigger issue.

Once elected in the Senate, Eleazar vowed to take the place of Senator Panfilo “Ping” Lacson as an anti-graft lawmaker who ferociously guarded the country’s national budget in his three terms as a senator.

Lacson is the Partido Demokratiko’s standard bearer who is running for president alongside his vice presidential tandem, Senate President Vicente “Tito” Sotto III.

Both Eleazar and Lacson are former PNP chiefs and graduates of the Philippine Military Academy (PMA), the country’s premier military training institution.

“Kagaya ng ipinakita ng incoming President [Lacson] na nagbantay sa kaban ng bayan at galit na galit sa mga taong nagmamalabis o otoridad na nagmamalabis at nag-aabuso sa ating mga kababayan, ito din ang ating gagawin dahil ito ang kailangan ng ating bayan,”Eleazar said.

Eleazar promised to bring up the ordinary people’s daily struggles and battles to the Senate so they will be addressed by the lawmakers.

“Ang amin pong role sa Senado ay gumawa ng mga batas at sumuporta sa atin pong Pangulo at Pangalawang Pangulo pero ang bottom line po ng lahat ng ito ay implementasyon ng mga batas,” he said.

“Hayaan niyo na ang araw-araw niyong laban sa buhay, iyan din ang maging laban ko. Dahil ang laban niyo ay laban ko,” he concluded.
