NATIONAL Bureau of Investigation (NBI) agents arrested recently a Dutch tourist and rescued three female minors at a hotel in Puerto Galera, Occidental Mindoro.

This developed after the NBI received information regarding an alleged incident of child exploitation in White Beach, Brgy. San Isidro.

NBI Officer-In-Charge Eric Distor identified the Dutch tourist as Jan Anthonie Van Hierden, 57. He was arrested inside a local hotel with three girls aged 10, 13, and 14.

Hotel staff observed that Hierden was acting suspiciously, prompting them to coordinate with the barangay, which in turn alerted the NBI-MIMAROPA (Occidental Mindoro, Oriental Mindoro, Marinduque, Roblon, and Palawan).

On June 21, 2021, NBI operatives along with barangay officials swooped down on the hotel and confronted Hierden.

In his defense, Hierden insisted that the minors were his nieces with his Filipina girlfriend.

But NBI-MIMAROPA and barangay officials learned that the biological parents of the minors are in Malaysia, and are not aware that their children are staying with Hierden.

NBI operatives arrested Hierden while the minors were turned over to the Provincial Social Welfare Office.

Hierdan was brought for inquest before the Provincial Prosecutor’s Office of Calapan City, Oriental Mindoro for possible violation of Section 6 in relation to Section 5 (Attempt to Commit Child Prostitution) of Republic Act No 7610 (Special Protection of Children Against Abuse, Exploitation, and Discrimination Act).

The suspect remains under the custody of NBI-MIMAROPA.
