Drag racing kills 3, hurts 6 in Bukidnon
THREE persons died while six others were injured in a drag racing event by a group of motorcycle riders in Bukidnon.
The Bukidnon Provincial Police Office identified the fatalities as Abigail Manalo, 22, passenger of a multicab; and motorbike riders Florendo Cababat, 21; and a minor.
The injured were multicab passengers Monique Nicole Vasquez, 22, and Omaira Sarosong, 21; Simon Ocon Jr., 35; and Donniza Ocon, 29, who were on a motorcycle not involved in the race but were also hit; and Angel Socias, 23, and another minor, who were both in the race.
The deadly drag racing occurred on Sayre Highway at Purok 5 in Bgy. Cabahangan, Malaybalay City, Bukidnon.
An investigation showed the Yamaha Sniper motorcycle driven by the minor who died, struck from behind the Suzuki multicab driven by Charlito Vasquez, 49, from Cagayan de Oro City, with Manalo, Vasquez, and Sarosong as passengers.
The strong impact caused Manalo to fatally fall from the multicab, and injured Vasquez and Sarosong.
The multicab then hit three motorcycles driven by Cababat, Socias, and the other minor, who were all in the race that started in Bgy. Aglayan.
All victims were rushed by rescuers to Bukidnon Provincial Medical Center and Malaybalay Polymedic General Hospital, where Manalo, Cababat and the minor motorbike rider were declared dead on arrival.
