THE Department of Tourism (DOT) has vowed to open up and reintroduce Mindanao as a peaceful and thriving tourism destination in the Philippines.

More than a year since the Marcos administration took the helm in the national government, the DOT, under the leadership of Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco, delivered concrete achievements in the Philippine tourism industry.

The DOT established Tourist Rest Areas (TRAs) across strategic locations around the country to enhance the overall tourism experience.

In convergence with the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), tourism roads were built to improve connectivity.

Philippine Experience Caravans were also rolled out to further develop cultural tourism circuits across known and emerging destinations focused on heritage, culture and arts.

The DOT partnered with the Department of Transportation for the airport enhancement program that highlights the “Filipinization” of the country’s main gateways.

For the first time, tourists and visitors alike were given priority with the launching of the multi-platform and integrated Travel Philippines App and Tourist Assistance Call Center.

The government’s efforts to reinvigorate the tourism industry has provided jobs to millions of Filipinos in tourism-related industries.
