TRECE MARTIRES CITY, Cavite – A day before the expected influx of people visiting cemeteries for “Undas”, the Department of Health – Center for Health Development (DOH-CHD) Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Quezon) once again reminded the public to follow the minimum public health standards.

DOH Calabarzon has distributed tarpaulins to its provincial counterparts for posting in several regional cemeteries. There are a total of 172 cemeteries in Calabarzon.

“We urge the public to adhere to the minimum public health standards, especially this Undas. During this season, people tend to be complacent. Baka makalimot na narito pa ang COVID-19, ” DOH Calabarzon Regional Director Ariel I. Valencia said.

While inside the cemetery, keep the face mask on, sanitize/wash hands, and observe physical distancing. If COVID-19 symptoms manifest, stay home to avoid spreading the virus.

Valencia urges parents and caregivers not to bring their infants or children. Senior citizens are advised not to leave their homes as this will predispose them to contracting the COVID-19 virus.

Those who have yet to receive their primary vaccines or booster dose are encouraged to visit the nearest vaccination site in their area.

In addition, the public is also reminded to bring drinking water to rehydrate themselves and umbrellas to protect them from the sun and rain. Due to the rise in dengue cases, it is also advised to protect the body by using insect repellent to keep mosquitoes away.

To ensure food safety at the cemetery, bring food prepared at home but avoid food that spoils quickly.

“Sa paghahanda pa lang ng pagkain ay dapat tiyakin na malinis ang mga kamay, ihiwalay ang mga hilaw na karne, manok at mga lamang dagat sa ibang pagkain, at tiyakin na naluto ng maayos ang mga ito,” Valencia stressed.

“Pero kung maaari ay ‘wag na pong magtagal pa sa sementeryo at magdala na lamang ng mga hindi madaling mapanis na pagkain, katulad ng biscuits at candies,” Valencia added.

“Always remember that the government is here to remind the public of all the precautions. Ultimately, it is our responsibility to safeguard ourselves and the people around us. The best way to do this is to follow the minimal public health standards set by the government,” Valencia concluded.
