TAONG 1983 nang unang magtanghal sa Pilipinas ang veteran award-winning American hitmaker, singer-songwriter, composer and musician na si David Pomeranz sa Folk Arts Theater. Nasundan ito 16 years later and has since kept on coming back sa bansang kanyang itinuturing na `second home’ where he has developed a lot Filipino friends and liking for our Filipino foods including cassava cake, pancit, adobong manok at iba pa maging ang kultura ng mga Pinoy.

David is back in the Philippines to celebrate his 40th anniversary sa pamamagitan ng isang concert tour which will cover several parts of Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao produced by Dr. Carl Balita Productions (CBP) and Dr. Carl E. Balita Review Center (CBRC).

Dr. Carl Balita is a well known educator, entrepreneur, film and concert producer. Bilang film producer, he produced relevant movies tulad ng “Nars” in 2007, “Maestra” and “Rebyu” in 2017, “A Father’s Love” in 2021 and “Siglo ng Kalinga” this year.

Pinamagatang “David Pomeranz 40th Anniversary Concert Tour,” ito’y magsisimula ngayong December 3 (Sunday) at the KCC Convention Center in Zamboanga na susundan sa Limketkai Mall in Cagayan de Oro on December 4 (Monday), Panpaficific University Events Center in Pangasinan on December 5 (Tuesday), Albay Astrodome in Albay on December 10 (Sunday), Calapan City Convention Center in Calapan, Mindoro on December 12 (Tuesday), at the Mango Grove in Maguindanao del Sur on December 13 (Wednesday), at the Calbayog City Sports Center in Calbayog City on December 17 (Sunday) at sa Iloilo Convention Center on Decembr 19 (Tuesday).

“I am excited to be back on the road, and looking forward to seeing all my fans in the Philippines. I can’t believe it’s been 4 decades since I first performed in Manila!

Where did the time go? So, to commemorate that anniversary, we’ve also put together a special tour around the Philippines to celebrate this occasion. I can’t wait to be with all my friends on the tour!,” pahayag pa niya.

With David as the main act, makakasama niya sa iba’t ibang lugar ang mga Filipino artists and local acts tulad nina Frenchie Dy, DWTA, Donita Nose, Beverly Salviejo at iba pa with Vina Morales sa kanyang December 8 concert at the Newport Performing Arts Theater.

David popularized the classic hit songs tulad ng “I You Walked Away,” “The Old Songs,” “King and Queen of Hearts,” “Got To Believe in Magic,” “Born for You,” “On This Day” among others.

Since it’s Christmas time in the Philippines he might sing his favorite Christmas song popularized by Gary Valenciano, “Pasko na Sinta Ko” and will perform other Filipino ditties like “Tell Me” by Joey Albert composed by Louie Ocampo na paborito rin niyang Filipino song.

Si David ay miyembro ng Scientology dianetics movement at Ambassador for Operation Smile, isang foundation na dedicated sa may mga kapansanan ng cleft lip and palate.

It was in 1968 hanggang 1969 nang maging lead singer si David ng Ohio-based rock band, ang East Orange Express. His liking for music started when he was at a young age. He was 19 when he was signed up by MCA-Decca where he recorded his two first hit albums, ang “New Blues” and “Time to Fly” (featuring Chick Corea). He started touring bilang front act ng iba pang American and English music icons tulad nina Rod Stewart, Billy Joel, The Doors at iba pa.

He also wrote songs for other artists tulad ng “Trying to Get That Felling Again” and “The Old Songs” for Barry Manillow and most of his works have been recorded by other popular artists tulad nina Bette Midler, Phoebe Snow, Freddie Mercury, Missy Elliot, The Carpenters, Harry Belafonte, Andrea Marcovicci, Donna Summer, The Hollies, Cliff Richard among others most of whom are already gone.

Being a music icon himself, David does not want to stop writing and composing songs not only for himself but for other singers as well and he does not mind collaborating with Filipino artists at marami na siyang nakatrabahong Filipino singers in the past including megastar Sharon Cuneta and most of them ay naging kaibigan niya and he remembers their names pretty well and even the title of the Filipino songs na gusto niya at kinanta na niya before. Maging ang kanyang mga Filipino producers ay kilala niya including the venues where he performed before.

Kung mahal ni David ang Pilipinas (which he considers his second home), it’s people, culture, food, music at magagandang tanawin na kanyang nabisita na, maituturing na siyang “adopted son” ng bansa at ito ang dahilan kung bakit hindi umano siya mapapagod magbabalik-balik dito.

Nakapag-sulat na siya for musical plays both for off-Broadway and West End, and he’s also preparing for another musical play for the Philippine market.
