Cries for help

DEMOCRACY flourishes when government authorities, through concerned offices and agencies, listen to the people’s “cries for help,” notably during trying and hard times.

The government ought to bend to the will of the Filipino masses, including the poorest of the poor across the country, on certain vital issues affecting their welfare and interest.

And looking for ways to meet the mushrooming needs of the burgeoning population is one way of giving a new government a much-needed boost in the eyes of the public.

We are confident that the incoming administration of President-elect Ferdinand “Bongbong” R. Marcos Jr. will heed the people’s clamor for drastic changes and reforms.

In the view of many, these changes and reforms are needed to effectively address the numerous problems confronting the country and the beleaguered Filipinos.

Nobody will argue with those who believe that “unity in diversity” plays a crucial role in the success of government efforts to hasten the country’s socio-economic development.

“Puwede naman tayong magtulong-tulong kahit napakarami nating pagkakaiba, na kagaya ng politika, kultura at relihiyon,” according to a retired barangay chairman.

“What’s really important is our readiness to set aside our many differences and work in unison with the new administration for the good of the people and the Philippines,” he said.

With 31.6 million votes, Bongbong’s overwhelming victory in the May 9 national and local elections is seen to help in healing the “wounds” inflicted during the campaign period.

Dapat maghilom na ang mga sugat na ito.
