Cops rescue minor kidnapped by caretaker
A YOUNG girl who was kidnapped by their family caretaker in Mandaue City on Tuesday noon was rescued unharmed by the local police following a a rescue operation which also led to the capture of the kidnapper within 3-hours after the incident was reported, Police Regional Office 7 director Brig. Gen. Anthony A. Aberin told the Journal Group yesterday.
According to the official, members of the Mandaue City Police Office and the PRO7 Regional Intelligence Division launched the operation after they received a report that the victim was forcibly snatched in their apartment in Jayme Street in Bgy. Makilid around 12 noon Tuesday.
Aberin said they got the information about the kidnapping incident at about 5 p.m. Tuesday, prompting him to order the rescue operation, which involved all available PRO7 and Mandaue City police resources.
Through the help of witnesses and CCTV footages in the area, officers managed to track down the suspect and the victim and launched the rescue operation.
During the operation, the suspect identified as Godiflor Rama, a 32-year-old native of Bukidnon who was working as a caretaker of the apartment of the victim’s parents , was arrested.
It turned out that the accused took advantage of his familiarity with the victim to abduct her.
Aberin congratulated the officers and men who were personally involved in the successful rescue mission.
“I would like to recognize the very swift action of the able, active and allied police operatives of PRO 7 who participated in the rescue operation of the minor kidnap victim and the arrest of the kidnapper. Congratulations to all of you and the PNP is very proud of you,” the official said.
The rescued victim was immediately returned to her family by personnel from the PRO7 Women and Children Protection Desk while the suspect is now being held at the Mandaue City police lock-up facility where appropriate criminal charges are being readied against him, said the PRO7 director.
