AN armed and dangerous thief is at-large in Marikina City, the Journal Group learned yesterday.

This after the still unidentified burglar forced his way into the rented room of a 33-year-old policeman in Marikina City on Wednesday and escaped with the cop’s issued Galil assault rifle with two magazines containing 60 rounds of live ammunition, a National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) report said.

Corporal Wrester Pamittan discovered the theft when he returned home in UBB Barangka, Marikina City around 5:45 p.m. Wednesday and found that his doorknob has been unlocked.

The policeman told the Marikina City Police Station that he left his rented room properly locked and secured around 10 p.m. Tuesday.

When he returned home, he found his room in disarray and his Philippine National Police-issued caliber 5.56mm Galil Basic Assault Rifle with serial number 48136245, its two fully-loaded magazines and a wristwatch were missing.

The policeman said he kept the weapon and his wristwatch in a plastic storage box.

The incident is still being investigated as of press time. NCRPO director, Major General Vicente D. Danao Jr. has ordered an all-out effort to recover the high-powered firearm which could be sold to criminals if unrecovered.
