A VIRAL video of rodents feasting on meat products at a store in Manila has thrust outfront the need to go after vendors selling contaminated food.

The viral video has already reached more than four million views, according to reports.

Those who consume contaminated meat may contract the deaded leptospirosis and other diseases, the Veterinary Inspection Board reported.

Leptospirosis is a rare bacterial insfection people get from animals. It’s spread their urine, especially from rodents and other farm animals.

A bacteria called leptospira interrogans causes leptospirosis. Many animals carry the organism, which lives in their kidneys.

In the viral video, more than five big rats are seen feasting on the meat at a store in the heavily-populated Paco District in Manila.

“Pero mabuti naman at mabilis na umaksyon ang mga otoridad at pinasarhan kaagad ang nasabing tindahan,” an irate consumer said.

Various quarters concede that cleanliness in many public markets remains a major headache of consumers and government authorities.

We, thus, urge concerned authorities to close down all dirty stores and markets, notably those selling meat, fish and other food products.

It’s certainly a move in the right direction considering the spiralling costs of medicines and medical services in the Philippines.
