CIDG men seize P215K worth of smuggled cigarettes

AN estimated P215,000 worth of smuggled cigarettes were confiscated by operatives of the Philippine National Police Criminal Investigation and Detection Group in an anti-smuggling operation in Misamis Oriental they launched in coordination with the Bureau of Customs and local police units, PNP-CIDG director, Brigadier General Ronald O. Lee said on Wednesday.

The official said that a 30-year old suspect identified as Jonathan Jarap was arrested during the entrapment operation in Zone 7, Taporok, Malanang in Opol, Misamis Oriental last Monday.

Brig. Gen. Lee said that recovered during the sting were 164 reams of smuggled Cannon, Nelson, King and San Marino cigarettes and the buy-bust money topped by a marked bill.

The suspect is now facing charges for violation of REpublic Act 10643 and 8424 before a local prosecutor’s office, the PNP-CIDG director said.
