THE Philippine National Police noted a reduction in the number of COVID-19 cases among its personnel with only one reported yesterday, a record since the start of the pandemic.

There were only a total of 128 active cases in the police force where 48,655 out of the 48,811 who contracted the virus since March 2020 have already fully recovered and are now back to full duty status, the PNP Health Service headed by Brigadier General Antonino R. Cirujales said.

The PNP-HS head said they also recorded six new recoveries.

In a report to PNP chief General Dionardo B. Carlos, the official said 220,173 police personnel or 97.93 percent of their entire strength are now fully vaccinated while 3,894 or 1.73 percent have already received their 1st dose and are waiting for their 2nd shot.

Another 120,527 police personnel or 54.74 percent of the force have also received their ‘booster shots’ as of press time, Brig. Gen. Cirujales said.

However, there are still a total of 750 or 0.33 percent of the organization who are yet to be vaccinated, 339 of them with valid reasons while the rest have no valid reason at all.

Since March 2020, a total of 128 PNP personnel have passed away after contracting the virus while acting as ‘front-liners’ in the government’s effort to help reduce the transmission of the killer disease by enforcing minimum health safety protocols and keeping unauthorized persons outside of their residence.
