AGENTS of the Bureau of Immigration (BI) announced on Wednesday the arrest and deportation of a high-ranking Mongolian official who is wanted in his home country for corruption offenses.

Immigration Intelligence chief Fortunato Manahan Jr. identified the fugitive as Tunjin Badamjunai, 67.

Badamjunai was arrested last April 4 in coordination with the Mongolian police.

“We were initially informed by Mongolian authorities that Badamjunai will be in Cebu City,” Manahan said.

BI agents arrested the Mongolian following a mission order issued by Immigration Commissioner Norman Tansingco.

“The Mongolian government cancelled his passport, rendering him undocumented,” added Manahan.

Badamjunai was deported that same night via a Korean Airlines flight from Mactan, Cebu upon the request of Mongolian authorities.
