Bestlink topples LPU, UL downs EAC

BESTLINK College of the Philippines and University of Luzon notched their first win after defeating their respective opponents in the 30th NCRAA basketball tournament at the Bestlink gymnasium in Quezon City.

The Kalasag toppled Lyceum of the Philippines University-Laguna, 89-83, while the Golden Tigers stunned Emilio Aguinaldo College-Cavite, 97-85.

Art Maravilla and Julito Estoya combined for 47 points for the coach Edwin Punio-mentored Bestlink.

Maravilla fired 25 points on 9-of-17 shooting and added four assists while Estoya contributed 22 point, nine rebounds, four assists and four steals.

Louis Cu and Aaron Reyna contributed 13 and 11 points, respectively.

Jeff Gellamucho and Ivan Landicho led the losing effort of LPU-Laguna of coach Michael Sydiangco.

Gellamucho scored 24 points on 10-of-17 from the field, and six rebounds, and Landicho had 23 points. Emmanuel Duron added 11 points and 11 rebounds.

In the women’s division, Philippine Merchant Marine School opened its campaign with a 75-65 victory over Bestlink College.

Gienevere Sediego topscored for PMMS of coach Ralph Briones as she finished with 20 points, 10 rebounds, five steals and four assists.

Eloisa Pagobo added 14 points and nine rebounds.

Mariella Salvador, Bea Pesito and Chelsea Mesina chipped in with 12, 11 and 10 points.

Ashley Estrabo led Bestlink with a double-double of 19 points and 20 rebounds in 32 minutes of action for coach Edwin Punio.

Ma.Claire Quinia and Grace Roca added 13 and 10 points, respectively.
